China Files WTO Complaint Against U.S. Over Additional Tariffs

In a significant escalation of trade tensions, China has filed a formal complaint with the World Trade Organization (WTO) following the United States' announcement of an additional 10 percent tariff on a range of Chinese products. The spokesperson for China's Ministry of Commerce made the announcement on Tuesday, stating that the move is aimed at safeguarding China's legitimate rights and interests.

\\"The U.S. imposition of additional tariffs on Chinese products has seriously violated WTO rules,\\" the spokesperson said in response to media inquiries. \\"This egregious act is typical of unilateralism and trade protectionism.\\"

The spokesperson emphasized that the U.S. actions undermine the rules-based multilateral trading system, erode the foundation of China-U.S. economic and trade cooperation, and disrupt the stability of global industrial and supply chains.

\\"The United States has repeatedly put unilateralism above multilateralism, incurring strong condemnation from the majority of WTO members,\\" they added. \\"China firmly opposes the U.S. actions and urges the U.S. side to immediately rectify its wrongdoings.\\"

As a staunch supporter and significant contributor to the multilateral trading system, China expressed its readiness to work with other WTO members to address the challenges posed by unilateralism and trade protectionism. \\"We are committed to safeguarding the orderly and stable development of international trade,\\" the spokesperson concluded.
