The 2025 World Economic Forum (WEF) commenced on Monday in Davos, Switzerland, gathering nearly 3,000 participants from 130 countries and regions. Under the theme \"Cooperation in the Intelligent Age\", the annual meeting seeks to foster global collaboration to tackle shared challenges.
With over 60 heads of state and government in attendance, alongside political leaders, business executives, and experts, the forum aims to drive meaningful dialogue on critical issues such as geopolitical tensions, climate change, and the rapid transformation brought about by artificial intelligence and automation.
Chinese Vice Premier Ding Xuexiang highlighted the importance of cooperation in promoting economic globalization during his address. \"Through cooperation to promote economic globalization, we will usher in a more vibrant, advanced, and sustainable new stage,\" he stated. \"I believe we have the wisdom and capability to find mutually beneficial cooperation through communication and consultation, and I also recognize the challenges in further advancing economic globalization.\"
European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen echoed this sentiment, emphasizing the necessity of global unity. \"We will need to work together to avoid a global race to the bottom,\" she remarked. \"Because it is in no one's interest to break the bonds in the global economy.\"
WEF Founder Klaus Schwab, speaking before the opening, called for a renewed spirit of optimism and collaboration amidst growing global divisions. \"Despite divergent positions and great uncertainties, the Annual Meeting 2025 will foster a spirit of cooperation and constructive optimism with the objective of shaping the forthcoming Intelligent Age in a more sustainable and inclusive way,\" Schwab said.
Jeremy Jurgens, Managing Director of WEF, underscored the significance of strong global governance in the face of rapid technological change. He highlighted contributions from the Chinese mainland in areas such as economic growth, innovation, and environmental sustainability, underlining the importance of inclusive international collaboration.
The forum's discussions are expected to delve deep into how nations can work together to address the accelerating climate crisis, manage technological advancements, and navigate geopolitical tensions. Participants aim to find common ground and seize opportunities to make positive changes on today's most pressing global issues.
As the world enters the Intelligent Age, the emphasis on global cooperation at the WEF reflects a shared recognition that only through collaboration can nations effectively tackle the complex challenges ahead.
