China has expressed its willingness to engage in open communication with the European Union (EU) regarding intellectual property issues, according to a statement from the Chinese Ministry of Commerce on Monday.
\"Channels of communication with the EU on intellectual property issues are always open,\" the ministry stated, emphasizing China's readiness to address concerns through dialogue.
The statement comes after the EU filed a complaint at the World Trade Organization (WTO) on Monday, challenging China's judicial practices concerning standard essential patent disputes.
China acknowledged receiving a consultation request from the EU on January 20, as part of the WTO dispute settlement process. The Ministry of Commerce highlighted that this step reflects the procedural norms within the WTO framework.
The ministry underscored China's commitment to adhering strictly to WTO rules and its accession commitments. \"China has continually improved legislation and law enforcement related to the protection of intellectual property rights, and its achievements have been widely recognized,\" the statement read.
Looking ahead, China affirmed that it will handle subsequent matters in accordance with WTO rules, firmly safeguarding its legitimate rights and interests while seeking to resolve the dispute amicably.
