China Open to EU Talks on Intellectual Property, Says Ministry of Commerce

China's Ministry of Commerce has announced that channels of communication with the European Union (EU) on intellectual property (IP) issues remain open, emphasizing a commitment to dialogue amidst recent tensions.

On Monday, the EU filed a complaint with the World Trade Organization (WTO) concerning China's judicial practices related to standard essential patent disputes. The complaint centers on allegations that China's policies prevent EU companies from effectively protecting their IP rights in China.

In response, the Ministry of Commerce acknowledged receiving a consultation request from the EU on January 20. The ministry, in an online statement, stressed China's strict adherence to WTO rules and its accession commitments. It highlighted continuous improvements in legislation and law enforcement concerning IP rights protection, achievements that have been widely recognized globally.

\"China has always valued the protection of intellectual property rights and has actively fostered an environment that encourages innovation and fair competition,\" the ministry stated. \"We will address subsequent matters in accordance with WTO rules and firmly safeguard our legitimate rights and interests.\"

The ministry reiterated its openness to dialogue, expressing readiness to engage with the EU to resolve differences through constructive consultation.
