China Open to EU Dialogue on Intellectual Property Issues

China's Ministry of Commerce has emphasized its readiness to maintain open channels of communication with the European Union (EU) regarding intellectual property rights (IPR) issues. The announcement came on Monday, following the EU's recent move to file a complaint at the World Trade Organization (WTO) against China's judicial practices concerning standard essential patents.

In an online statement, the ministry acknowledged receiving a consultation request from the EU on January 20. Responding to media inquiries, the ministry reaffirmed China's commitment to adhering strictly to WTO rules and its accession commitments. It highlighted the nation's ongoing efforts to enhance legislation and law enforcement related to IPR protection, achievements that have garnered widespread recognition.

\"We will address subsequent matters in accordance with WTO rules and firmly safeguard our legitimate rights and interests,\" the ministry stated, signaling China's dedication to resolving disputes through established international mechanisms.

The EU's complaint centers on China's handling of standard essential patent disputes, a critical area intersecting technology and international trade. The dialogue between China and the EU on this matter underscores the importance of cooperation in navigating complex intellectual property landscapes that affect global markets and innovation.
