China's Ministry of Commerce announced on Monday that channels of communication with the European Union (EU) on intellectual property issues remain open, emphasizing a willingness to engage in constructive dialogue.
The statement comes in response to the EU filing a complaint at the World Trade Organization (WTO) on the same day, challenging China's judicial practices concerning standard essential patent disputes.
According to the ministry, China received the EU's consultation request on January 20, following media inquiries about the issue. The ministry highlighted China's strict adherence to WTO rules and its commitments made upon accession to the organization.
\"China has continuously improved legislation and law enforcement related to the protection of intellectual property rights,\" the ministry stated. \"These achievements have been widely recognized internationally.\"
The ministry further assured that China would address subsequent matters in accordance with WTO procedures, firmly safeguarding its legitimate rights and interests.
The development underscores the complexities of international trade relations, particularly concerning intellectual property—a critical area for business professionals, investors, and policymakers monitoring Asian markets and legal frameworks.
