China Open to EU Dialogue on Intellectual Property Amid WTO Complaint

China's Ministry of Commerce announced on Monday that communication channels with the European Union (EU) regarding intellectual property issues remain open. This statement comes in response to the EU filing a complaint at the World Trade Organization (WTO) against China's judicial rulings on standard essential patent disputes.

The ministry confirmed that China received a consultation request from the EU on January 20, addressing media inquiries about the matter. It emphasized that China has strictly adhered to WTO rules and its commitments upon accession, continuously improving legislation and law enforcement related to the protection of intellectual property rights—a commitment that has been widely recognized.

\"We will handle subsequent matters in accordance with WTO rules and firmly safeguard our legitimate rights and interests,\" the ministry stated.

The open communication signifies China's willingness to engage with the EU to resolve the issues at hand. Intellectual property rights are a significant aspect of China-EU relations, impacting entrepreneurs, investors, and businesses involved in technological innovation and trade between the two economies.
