China Open to Dialogue with EU on Intellectual Property Issues

China has expressed its readiness to engage in open communication with the European Union regarding intellectual property (IP) issues, reaffirming its commitment to international cooperation.

On Monday, the Chinese Ministry of Commerce stated that channels of communication with the EU concerning intellectual property matters remain open. This announcement came in response to the EU's recent action at the World Trade Organization (WTO).

Earlier the same day, the EU filed a complaint at the WTO challenging China's judicial practices related to standard essential patent disputes.

China received the EU's request for consultations on January 20, according to an online statement by the ministry.

The ministry emphasized that China has consistently adhered to WTO rules and its accession commitments. It highlighted the country's ongoing efforts to enhance legislation and law enforcement in the field of intellectual property rights protection, noting that these achievements have been widely recognized.

China stated it would handle subsequent matters in accordance with WTO procedures while firmly safeguarding its legitimate rights and interests.
