China Open to Dialogue with EU on Intellectual Property Issues

China has expressed openness to continued communication with the European Union on intellectual property issues, according to a statement from the Chinese Ministry of Commerce released on Monday.

The announcement comes in response to the EU's decision to file a complaint with the World Trade Organization (WTO) on Monday, challenging China's judicial practices concerning standard essential patent disputes.

In an online statement, the ministry acknowledged receiving a consultation request from the EU on January 20. The ministry emphasized that China has consistently adhered to WTO regulations and its accession commitments. It highlighted the nation's ongoing efforts to enhance legislation and law enforcement related to the protection of intellectual property rights, noting that these achievements have been widely recognized.

\"Channels of communication with the EU on intellectual property issues are always open,\" the ministry stated, underscoring China's willingness to engage in dialogue to resolve disputes.

The ministry added that China will handle subsequent matters in accordance with WTO rules and is committed to firmly safeguarding its legitimate rights and interests.
