China's Ministry of Commerce announced on Monday that communication channels with the European Union (EU) on intellectual property issues are always open. This statement comes after the EU filed a complaint at the World Trade Organization (WTO) against China's judicial rulings on standard essential patent disputes.
In an online statement responding to media inquiries, the ministry confirmed that China received a consultation request from the EU on January 20. It emphasized that China remains committed to engaging in constructive dialogue with the EU to address concerns over intellectual property rights.
The ministry highlighted that China has strictly adhered to WTO rules and its accession commitments. Over the years, China has continually improved legislation and law enforcement related to the protection of intellectual property rights, achievements that have been widely recognized internationally.
Addressing the WTO complaint, the ministry stated that China will handle subsequent matters in accordance with WTO rules and will firmly safeguard its legitimate rights and interests. The ministry's stance underscores China's dedication to maintaining the integrity of its legal framework while fostering international cooperation.
The ongoing discussions between China and the EU reflect the importance of collaboration in resolving complex intellectual property issues within the global trade system. Both parties appear willing to work through the WTO framework to find a mutually agreeable solution.
