China Invites EU to Dialogue on Intellectual Property Amid WTO Complaint

China has announced its openness to communication with the European Union regarding intellectual property issues, following the EU’s recent complaint to the World Trade Organization (WTO). On Monday, the Chinese Ministry of Commerce stated that channels of communication with the EU are “always open,” signaling a willingness to address concerns through dialogue.

The EU filed a complaint at the WTO on Monday over China’s judicial measures related to standard essential patent disputes. China acknowledged receiving a consultation request from the EU on January 20, as per the ministry’s online statement responding to media inquiries on the matter.

The Ministry of Commerce emphasized that China has strictly adhered to WTO rules and its commitments upon accession. The country has continually improved legislation and law enforcement in the protection of intellectual property rights, achievements that have been widely recognized internationally.

China affirmed that it will handle subsequent matters in accordance with WTO rules and will firmly safeguard its legitimate rights and interests. The ministry expressed confidence in resolving the issues through established multilateral mechanisms and ongoing communication with the EU.
