The Chinese Ministry of Commerce announced on Monday that channels of communication with the European Union (EU) on intellectual property issues remain open. This statement comes in response to the EU filing a complaint at the World Trade Organization (WTO) against China's judicial rulings concerning standard essential patent disputes.
According to an online statement from the ministry, China received a consultation request from the EU on January 20. The ministry emphasized that China has adhered strictly to WTO rules and its accession commitments, continuously improving legislation and law enforcement related to the protection of intellectual property rights—a commitment that has been widely recognized.
The ministry added that China will address subsequent matters in accordance with WTO rules and will firmly safeguard its legitimate rights and interests.
