China Expresses Openness to EU Dialogue on Intellectual Property

Channels of communication between the Chinese mainland and the European Union (EU) on intellectual property issues remain open, the Chinese Ministry of Commerce stated on Monday. This affirmation comes amid ongoing discussions surrounding the protection and enforcement of intellectual property rights between the two major economies.

On Monday, the EU initiated a complaint at the World Trade Organization (WTO) concerning China's judicial practices related to standard essential patent disputes. In response, China confirmed receipt of the EU's consultation request dated January 20, as noted in an online statement by the Ministry of Commerce.

The ministry emphasized China's commitment to adhering strictly to WTO regulations and its accession commitments. It highlighted the continuous improvements made in legislation and law enforcement pertaining to intellectual property rights protection. These efforts, the ministry noted, have garnered widespread recognition on the international stage.

Looking ahead, China expressed its intention to address subsequent matters in accordance with WTO rules, firmly safeguarding its legitimate rights and interests. The open channels for dialogue signal a willingness to engage constructively with the EU to resolve any disputes.
