China Affirms Open Dialogue with EU on Intellectual Property Issues

On Monday, the Chinese Ministry of Commerce announced that channels of communication with the European Union (EU) on intellectual property issues remain open. This statement follows the EU’s filing of a complaint at the World Trade Organization (WTO) against China’s judicial rulings on standard essential patent disputes.

According to the ministry’s online statement, China received a consultation request from the EU on January 20. In response to media inquiries, the ministry emphasized that China has strictly adhered to WTO rules and its accession commitments. It highlighted the continuous improvement of legislation and law enforcement related to the protection of intellectual property rights, noting that these achievements have been widely recognized.

The ministry added that China will address subsequent matters in accordance with WTO rules and will firmly safeguard its legitimate rights and interests.
