China has announced that it remains open to communication with the European Union (EU) regarding intellectual property issues, according to a statement from the Chinese Ministry of Commerce on Monday. This declaration comes in response to the EU’s recent decision to file a complaint at the World Trade Organization (WTO) over China’s judicial ruling on standard essential patent disputes.
The Ministry of Commerce confirmed that China received a consultation request from the EU on January 20. “Channels of communication with the EU on intellectual property issues are always open,” the ministry stated, emphasizing China’s willingness to engage in dialogue to address the concerns raised.
In its statement, the ministry stressed China’s adherence to WTO rules and its commitments made upon accession. “China has continuously improved legislation and law enforcement related to the protection of intellectual property rights,” the ministry noted, adding that these achievements have been widely recognized internationally.
The ministry also affirmed that China will handle subsequent matters in accordance with WTO regulations, firmly safeguarding its legitimate rights and interests. This commitment underscores China’s dedication to resolving disputes through established international mechanisms.
