China's Ministry of Commerce announced on Monday that channels of communication with the European Union (EU) regarding intellectual property rights remain open. This statement comes in response to the EU filing a complaint at the World Trade Organization (WTO) against China's judicial rulings on standard essential patent disputes.
On January 20, China received a consultation request from the EU, as confirmed by the ministry in an online statement addressing media inquiries about the issue. The ministry emphasized China's commitment to strict adherence to WTO rules and its accession commitments.
\"China has continuously improved legislation and enforcement related to the protection of intellectual property rights, achievements that have been widely recognized,\" the ministry stated. It added that the country intends to handle subsequent matters in accordance with WTO regulations and is determined to firmly safeguard its legitimate rights and interests.
The EU's complaint alleges that Chinese courts are restricting EU companies from protecting their standard essential patents, which are crucial for technological interoperability. The ongoing dialogue between China and the EU signifies a willingness from both parties to address and potentially resolve these complex issues through consultation.
