China Affirms Open Communication with EU on Intellectual Property Amid WTO Complaint

China has expressed its readiness to maintain open communication channels with the European Union (EU) on intellectual property rights (IPR) issues, according to a statement from the Chinese Ministry of Commerce on Monday.

The statement comes in response to the EU filing a complaint at the World Trade Organization (WTO) on Monday against China's judicial practices concerning standard essential patent disputes. China received the EU's request for consultations on January 20, the ministry noted in an online announcement.

The Ministry of Commerce emphasized that China has consistently adhered to WTO rules and honored its commitments since joining the organization. The country has made continuous efforts to enhance legislation and law enforcement related to the protection of intellectual property rights, achievements that have been widely recognized globally.

China affirmed that it will address subsequent matters in accordance with WTO procedures and is determined to firmly safeguard its legitimate rights and interests.
