China has reaffirmed its commitment to open communication with the European Union (EU) on intellectual property issues, according to a statement from the Chinese Ministry of Commerce on Monday. The ministry emphasized that channels of dialogue remain accessible as both parties navigate complex matters related to standard essential patents.
On the same day, the EU filed a complaint with the World Trade Organization (WTO) against China's judicial rulings concerning standard essential patent disputes. China received the EU's consultation request on January 20, the ministry confirmed in an online statement responding to media inquiries about the issue.
The Ministry of Commerce highlighted China's adherence to WTO rules and its commitments made upon accession. It noted that the country has continuously improved its legislation and law enforcement related to the protection of intellectual property rights, achievements that have been widely recognized internationally.
\"China has always strictly abided by WTO rules and fulfilled its obligations,\" the ministry stated. \"We are committed to enhancing intellectual property protection and are open to constructive dialogue with the EU to address any concerns.\"
The ministry added that China will handle subsequent matters according to WTO procedures and is prepared to firmly safeguard its legitimate rights and interests.
The ongoing dialogue underscores the importance of collaboration between China and the EU in addressing global intellectual property challenges. As vital trading partners, both parties recognize the significance of intellectual property rights in fostering innovation and promoting fair competition in the international market.
