WEF Operations Chief Highlights Sustainability and Diversity at Davos Forum

The World Economic Forum's Head of Event Management and Operations, Severin Podolak, emphasized the paramount importance of sustainability and diversity at this year's Davos Forum. In an exclusive interview with CGTN's Global Business, Podolak detailed the measures implemented to minimize the event's environmental footprint and promote inclusive representation.

\"We have made significant strides to 'reduce, reuse, and recycle' throughout the forum,\" Podolak stated. One of the key initiatives was subsidizing participants who chose to travel by public transportation, encouraging a shift away from carbon-intensive modes of travel. \"Our goal is to set a precedent for large-scale events by demonstrating that sustainability and efficiency can go hand in hand,\" he added.

Beyond environmental efforts, the 2024 Davos Forum showcased a commitment to diversity across various spheres. Podolak highlighted that the event brought together voices from a multitude of regions, industries, and perspectives. \"It's crucial that we have a diverse representation to address the complex challenges facing the global community,\" he explained. \"By including a wide array of opinions, we foster richer discussions and more innovative solutions.\"

The focus on sustainability and diversity aligns with the WEF's broader mission to improve the state of the world. Participants from around the globe engaged in dialogues aimed at tackling pressing issues such as climate change, economic disparity, and technological advancement.

As the forum concluded, Podolak expressed optimism about the future. \"The collaborative spirit and commitment we've seen here give me great hope. Together, we're laying the groundwork for meaningful change,\" he remarked.
