WEF Operations Chief Highlights Sustainability and Diversity at Core of 2024 Davos Forum

In an exclusive interview with CGTN’s Global Business, Severin Podolak, Head of Event Management and Operations at the World Economic Forum (WEF), shed light on the organization’s commitment to sustainability and diversity at the upcoming 2024 Davos Forum.

Podolak emphasized that this year’s event is striving to “reduce, reuse, and recycle” in every aspect of its operations. “We are implementing measures to minimize our environmental footprint,” he stated. One significant initiative is subsidizing participants who choose to travel by public transportation, encouraging eco-friendly travel and reducing carbon emissions associated with the event.

According to Podolak, sustainability is not just a theme but a core operational principle for the WEF. “Our goal is to set a precedent for large-scale events by integrating sustainable practices into our planning and execution,” he explained. This includes using renewable energy sources, reducing waste, and promoting sustainable catering options throughout the forum.

Diversity is another key focus for the 2024 Davos Forum. Podolak highlighted the importance of bringing together a wide range of voices and perspectives. “We have worked diligently to ensure diverse representation in terms of regions, industries, and opinions,” he remarked. “By fostering an inclusive environment, we aim to facilitate meaningful dialogues that can lead to actionable solutions on global challenges.”

The WEF’s efforts to enhance diversity are reflected in its speaker lineup and participant roster, which includes leaders from emerging economies, underrepresented industries, and various cultural backgrounds. “It’s crucial that we hear from all corners of the globe,” Podolak said. “Diverse perspectives enrich the conversations and help us to address issues more comprehensively.”

The 2024 Davos Forum is set to convene thought leaders, policymakers, and industry experts to discuss pressing global issues, from climate change to economic inequality. With sustainability and diversity at its core, the event aims to be a catalyst for positive change.
