Chinese Vice President Han Zheng met with representatives of the U.S. business community in Washington D.C. on Sunday, emphasizing the importance of strengthening China-U.S. relations and encouraging American companies to invest in China.
Han is visiting Washington D.C. to attend the inauguration ceremony of U.S. President-elect Donald Trump as President Xi Jinping's special representative. During his meeting with U.S. business leaders, Han highlighted the significant common interests and vast potential for cooperation between China and the United States.
He noted that President Xi Jinping and President-elect Donald Trump recently reached important common understandings on the development of bilateral relations during a phone call. Han expressed hope that U.S. companies will continue to invest and establish roots in China, acting as a bridge to contribute to the steady, sound, and sustainable development of China-U.S. relations.
Representatives from the U.S.-China Business Council and the U.S. Chamber of Commerce expressed optimism about China's economic prospects and opportunities for development. They supported strengthening dialogue and communication to advance bilateral relations and economic and trade cooperation. They agreed that as the world's two most dynamic and technologically advanced economies, the U.S. and China should pursue mutually beneficial cooperation and find a constructive and stable way to coexist.
Han Zheng also met with Tesla CEO Elon Musk on Sunday. He welcomed U.S. companies like Tesla to seize opportunities in China's development and contribute to promoting economic and trade relations between the two countries. Elon Musk expressed readiness to deepen investment and cooperation with China and to play an active role in enhancing U.S.-China economic and trade exchanges.
Han emphasized that China will unswervingly advance its reform and opening-up efforts and continue to improve its business environment. He acknowledged the U.S. business community as a backbone of China-U.S. relations, being participants, witnesses, contributors, and beneficiaries of bilateral economic and trade cooperation.
