The World Economic Forum (WEF) is placing sustainability and diversity at the forefront of its agenda for the upcoming 2024 Davos Forum, according to Severin Podolak, Head of Event Management and Operations at the WEF. In an exclusive interview with CGTN's Global Business, Podolak shared insights into how the Forum is implementing measures to \"reduce, reuse, and recycle\" in its operations.
\"We've made a conscious effort to minimize our environmental footprint,\" Podolak explained. \"This year, we're subsidizing participants who choose public transportation, encouraging a shift away from private vehicles to reduce emissions.\"
The focus on sustainability extends beyond transportation. The WEF is exploring innovative ways to make the Forum more eco-friendly, from waste reduction initiatives to energy-efficient venues. \"It's about setting an example and demonstrating that large-scale events can be conducted responsibly,\" Podolak added.
In addition to sustainability, diversity is a key pillar of the 2024 Davos Forum. Podolak emphasized the importance of bringing together a wide range of voices. \"We've broadened our outreach to include diverse representation across regions, industries, and opinions,\" he said. \"This diversity enriches the dialogue and leads to more comprehensive solutions to global challenges.\"
The WEF's commitment to inclusivity aims to foster collaboration among stakeholders from different backgrounds. \"By ensuring that all regions are represented, especially those from Asia's dynamic economies, we can address issues that are pertinent to a global audience,\" Podolak noted.
The 2024 Davos Forum is expected to draw leaders from around the world to discuss pressing economic, social, and environmental issues. With sustainability and diversity at its core, the event seeks to pave the way for a more inclusive and resilient future.
