Chinese Vice President Han Zheng emphasized the importance of strengthening China-U.S. relations during meetings with U.S. business leaders on Sunday. Han expressed hope that American companies would continue to invest and establish deep roots in China, serving as a bridge to promote steady, sound, and sustainable development between the two nations.
Han met with representatives from the U.S.-China Business Council and the U.S. Chamber of Commerce in Washington D.C., where he is attending the inauguration ceremony of U.S. President-elect Donald Trump as the special representative of Chinese President Xi Jinping.
During the discussions, Han noted that President Xi Jinping and President-elect Trump had recently reached important common understandings on advancing China-U.S. relations. He highlighted the broad common interests and vast potential for cooperation between China and the United States.
“Getting the bilateral relationship off to a good start and keeping it growing steadily serves the common well-being of our peoples and meets the expectations of the international community,” Han stated.
Han praised the U.S. business community as the backbone of China-U.S. relations, recognizing their role as participants, witnesses, contributors, and beneficiaries of bilateral economic and trade cooperation, as well as China’s reform and opening-up endeavors. He reaffirmed China’s commitment to advancing reform and opening-up efforts and improving its business environment.
Representatives of the U.S. business community expressed optimism about China’s economic prospects and opportunities for development. They viewed the recent phone conversation between President-elect Trump and President Xi Jinping as a positive and encouraging message.
“As the world’s two most dynamic and technologically advanced economies, the U.S. and China should pursue mutually beneficial cooperation and work towards a constructive and stable coexistence,” they remarked.
The U.S. business leaders voiced support for strengthening dialogue and communication to continue advancing bilateral relations and economic and trade cooperation.
In a separate meeting, Han also met with Tesla CEO Elon Musk. Han welcomed U.S. companies like Tesla to seize opportunities in China, sharing in the fruits of its development and contributing to the promotion of China-U.S. economic and trade relations.
Musk expressed Tesla’s readiness to deepen investment and cooperation with China and to play an active role in fostering economic and trade exchanges between the two countries.
