Chinese Vice President Han Zheng met with representatives of the U.S. business community in Washington D.C. on Sunday, emphasizing the importance of continued investment and cooperation between China and the United States.
Han expressed hope that U.S. companies will continue to invest and establish themselves in China, playing an active role as a bridge to enhance bilateral relations. He highlighted the potential for U.S. businesses to contribute to the steady, sound, and sustainable development of China-U.S. relations.
The meeting included representatives from the U.S.-China Business Council and the U.S. Chamber of Commerce. Han is in Washington D.C. to attend the inauguration ceremony of U.S. President-elect Donald Trump on Monday, serving as Chinese President Xi Jinping’s special representative at the invitation of the United States.
During discussions, Han noted that President Xi and President-elect Trump recently reached important common understandings regarding the development of China-U.S. relations during a phone conversation. He stressed that China and the United States share broad common interests and vast potential for cooperation.
“Getting the bilateral relationship off to a good start and keeping it growing steadily serves the common well-being of the peoples of the two countries and meets the expectations of the international community,” Han stated.
Han praised the U.S. business community as the backbone of China-U.S. relations, recognizing them as participants, witnesses, contributors, and beneficiaries of bilateral economic and trade cooperation as well as China’s reform and opening-up efforts. He assured that China will unswervingly advance its reform and opening-up and continue to improve its business environment.
The representatives of the U.S. business community acknowledged the positive message conveyed by the recent phone conversation between Trump and Xi. They expressed optimism about China’s economic prospects and development opportunities, supporting strengthened dialogue and communication to advance bilateral relations and economic and trade cooperation.
“As the world’s two most dynamic and technologically advanced economies, the United States and China should pursue mutually beneficial cooperation and work towards finding a constructive and stable way to coexist,” they remarked.
On the same day, Han also met with Tesla CEO Elon Musk. Han welcomed U.S. companies, including Tesla, to seize the opportunities presented by China’s development and to contribute to promoting China-U.S. economic and trade relations.
Musk expressed that Tesla is ready to deepen its investment and cooperation with China and to play an active role in promoting economic and trade exchanges between the two countries.
