Han Zheng Meets U.S. Business Leaders to Strengthen China-U.S. Ties

Chinese Vice President Han Zheng met with representatives of the U.S. business community in Washington D.C. on Sunday, expressing hope that American companies will continue to invest and establish deeper roots in China. He encouraged them to play an active role as a bridge between the two nations and contribute significantly to the steady, sound, and sustainable development of China-U.S. relations.

Han made these remarks during meetings with members of the U.S.-China Business Council and the U.S. Chamber of Commerce. He is visiting Washington D.C. to attend the inauguration ceremony of U.S. President-elect Donald Trump on Monday as the special representative of Chinese President Xi Jinping, at the invitation of the United States.

During his discussions with U.S. business leaders, Han highlighted that President Xi and President-elect Trump recently had a phone conversation where they reached important common understandings on the future development of China-U.S. relations.

Noting the broad common interests and vast potential for cooperation between China and the United States, Han emphasized that getting the bilateral relationship off to a good start and maintaining its steady growth serves the common well-being of the peoples of both countries and meets the expectations of the international community.

He acknowledged the U.S. business community as the backbone of China-U.S. relations, describing them as participants, witnesses, contributors, and beneficiaries of bilateral economic and trade cooperation as well as China's reform and opening-up initiatives.

Han assured that China will steadfastly advance its reform and opening-up efforts and continue to improve its business environment.

Representatives of the U.S. business community expressed optimism about China's economic prospects and the opportunities for development. They welcomed the positive and encouraging message sent by the recent phone conversation between Trump and Xi. They affirmed that, as the world's two most dynamic and technologically advanced economies, the United States and China should pursue mutually beneficial cooperation and work towards finding a constructive and stable way to coexist.

The U.S. business leaders voiced support for strengthening dialogue and communication between the two countries to continue advancing bilateral relations and economic and trade cooperation.

Han also met with Tesla CEO Elon Musk on Sunday. He noted that China welcomes U.S. companies, including Tesla, to seize opportunities to share in the fruits of China's development and make greater contributions to promoting China-U.S. economic and trade relations.

Musk expressed that Tesla is ready to deepen its investment and cooperation with China and play an active role in promoting economic and trade exchanges between the United States and China.
