Han Zheng Meets U.S. Business Leaders to Strengthen China-U.S. Ties
Chinese Vice President Han Zheng expressed hope on Sunday that U.S. companies will continue to invest and establish roots in China, playing an active role as a bridge to foster steady, sound, and sustainable development of China-U.S. relations.
Han made these remarks while meeting with representatives from the U.S. business community, including the U.S.-China Business Council and the U.S. Chamber of Commerce. He is currently in Washington D.C. to attend the inauguration ceremony of U.S. President-elect Donald Trump on Monday, acting as Chinese President Xi Jinping's special representative at the invitation of the United States.
Emphasizing Mutual Interests
During the meeting, Han highlighted the important common understandings reached by President Xi and President-elect Trump regarding the development of China-U.S. relations during a recent phone call. He noted that China and the United States share broad common interests and vast potential for cooperation.
\"Getting the bilateral relationship off to a good start and keeping it growing steadily serves the common well-being of the peoples of the two countries and meets the expectations of the international community,\" Han stated.
Role of the U.S. Business Community
Han commended the U.S. business community as the backbone of China-U.S. relations, describing it as a participant, witness, contributor, and beneficiary of bilateral economic and trade cooperation as well as China's reform and opening-up efforts.
\"China will unswervingly advance its reform and opening-up efforts and continue to improve its business environment,\" he added, encouraging U.S. businesses to seize opportunities in the Chinese market.
Optimism from U.S. Business Leaders
Representatives of the U.S. business community expressed optimism about China's economic prospects and development opportunities. They noted that the recent phone conversation between Trump and Xi sent a positive and encouraging message.
\"As the world's two most dynamic and technologically advanced economies, the U.S. and China should pursue mutually beneficial cooperation and work towards finding a constructive and stable way to coexist,\" they stated.
The business leaders affirmed their support for strengthening U.S.-China dialogue and communication to continue advancing bilateral relations and economic and trade cooperation.
Meeting with Tesla's Elon Musk
On the same day, Han also met with Tesla CEO Elon Musk. He welcomed U.S. companies, including Tesla, to share in the fruits of China's development.
Han emphasized China's openness to foreign investment and innovation. \"We welcome U.S. companies to seize the opportunity to invest in China and contribute to promoting China-U.S. economic and trade relations,\" he said.
Musk expressed Tesla's readiness to deepen its investment and cooperation with China and to play an active role in fostering economic and trade exchanges between the two countries.
