Chinese Vice President Han Zheng expressed hope that U.S. companies will continue to invest and establish themselves in China during a meeting with representatives of the U.S. business community on Sunday. He emphasized the importance of these companies playing an active role in fostering steady, sound, and sustainable development of China-U.S. relations.
Han is in Washington D.C. to attend the inauguration ceremony of U.S. President-elect Donald Trump on Monday as President Xi Jinping's special representative. During his visit, he met with representatives from the U.S.-China Business Council and the U.S. Chamber of Commerce.
During the meeting, Han noted that President Xi Jinping and President-elect Donald Trump recently reached important common understandings regarding the development of China-U.S. relations during a phone call. He highlighted that China and the United States share broad common interests and have vast potential for cooperation.
Han stated that getting the bilateral relationship off to a good start and maintaining steady growth serves the well-being of the peoples of both countries and meets the expectations of the international community. He recognized the U.S. business community as a backbone of China-U.S. relations, acknowledging their role as participants, witnesses, contributors, and beneficiaries of bilateral economic and trade cooperation as well as China's reform and opening-up efforts.
He assured that China will unswervingly advance its reform and opening-up initiatives and continue to improve its business environment.
Representatives from the U.S. business community noted that the recent phone conversation between President-elect Trump and President Xi Jinping sent a positive and encouraging message. They expressed that as the world's two most dynamic and technologically advanced economies, the United States and China should pursue mutually beneficial cooperation and work towards finding a constructive and stable way to coexist.
The U.S. business community expressed optimism about China's economic prospects and development opportunities. They support strengthening dialogue and communication between the United States and China to continue advancing bilateral relations and economic and trade cooperation.
Han Zheng also met with Tesla CEO Elon Musk on Sunday. He welcomed U.S. companies, including Tesla, to seize opportunities to share in the fruits of China's development and contribute to promoting economic and trade exchanges between the United States and China.
Musk stated that Tesla is ready to deepen its investment and cooperation with China and play an active role in promoting economic and trade relations between the two countries.
