Chinese Vice President Han Zheng met with representatives of the U.S. business community in Washington D.C. on Sunday, emphasizing the importance of strengthening China-U.S. economic ties and fostering mutual cooperation.
Han expressed hope that U.S. companies would continue to invest and establish deeper roots in China, acting as a bridge to contribute to the steady, sound, and sustainable development of bilateral relations. \"We welcome U.S. businesses to seize the opportunities presented by China's development and play an active role in promoting our economic cooperation,\" Han stated.
The meeting included representatives from the U.S.-China Business Council and the U.S. Chamber of Commerce. Han acknowledged the vital role the U.S. business community has played in China-U.S. relations, referring to them as participants, witnesses, contributors, and beneficiaries of economic and trade cooperation as well as China's reform and opening-up efforts.
Han is visiting Washington D.C. to attend the inauguration ceremony of U.S. President-elect Donald Trump on Monday as the special representative of Chinese President Xi Jinping. During their recent phone call, President Xi and President-elect Trump reached important common understandings regarding the development of China-U.S. relations.
Highlighting the broad common interests and vast potential for cooperation between the two nations, Han emphasized that getting the bilateral relationship off to a good start and maintaining its steady growth serve the well-being of both peoples and meet the expectations of the international community.
He reiterated China's commitment to advancing its reform and opening-up initiatives and to continually improving its business environment. \"China will unswervingly pursue policies that foster openness and innovation,\" Han affirmed.
Representatives of the U.S. business community conveyed optimism about China's economic prospects and development opportunities. They expressed support for strengthening dialogue and communication to advance bilateral relations and economic and trade cooperation. \"As the world's two most dynamic and technologically advanced economies, the United States and China should pursue mutually beneficial cooperation and work towards a constructive and stable coexistence,\" they stated.
During his visit, Han also met with Tesla CEO Elon Musk. Han welcomed Tesla's involvement in China and encouraged the company to deepen its investment and cooperation. \"We hope that companies like Tesla will share in the fruits of China's development and contribute to promoting China-U.S. economic and trade relations,\" Han said.
Musk expressed readiness to expand Tesla's presence in China and to play an active role in enhancing economic and trade exchanges between the two countries.
