Chinese Vice President Han Zheng met with representatives of the U.S. business community in Washington D.C. on Sunday, emphasizing the importance of continued investment and cooperation to strengthen China-U.S. ties.
During the meeting, Han expressed hope that U.S. companies would continue to invest and establish roots in China, playing an active role as a bridge between the two nations. He highlighted the need for greater contributions to the steady, sound, and sustainable development of China-U.S. relations.
Han is in Washington D.C. to attend the inauguration ceremony of U.S. President-elect Donald Trump on Monday as Chinese President Xi Jinping's special representative.
He noted that President Xi and President-elect Trump recently reached important common understandings regarding the development of China-U.S. relations during a phone call. Han emphasized that fostering a good start and maintaining steady growth in bilateral relations serves the well-being of both peoples and meets the expectations of the international community.
Han acknowledged the U.S. business community as the backbone of China-U.S. relations, recognizing them as participants, witnesses, contributors, and beneficiaries of bilateral economic and trade cooperation as well as China's reform and opening-up efforts. He assured that China would unswervingly advance its reform and opening-up initiatives and continue to improve its business environment.
Representatives of the U.S. business community expressed optimism about China's economic prospects and development opportunities. They welcomed the positive messages from the recent phone conversation between Trump and Xi, seeing it as encouraging for future cooperation.
They emphasized that as the world's two most dynamic and technologically advanced economies, the United States and China should pursue mutually beneficial cooperation and work towards finding a constructive and stable way to coexist. The representatives supported strengthening dialogue and communication to continue advancing bilateral relations and economic and trade cooperation.
Han also met with Tesla CEO Elon Musk on Sunday. He welcomed U.S. companies, including Tesla, to seize opportunities to share in China's development and contribute more to promoting China-U.S. economic and trade relations.
Musk stated that Tesla is ready to deepen its investment and cooperation with China and play an active role in promoting economic and trade exchanges between the United States and China.
