Chinese Vice President Han Zheng emphasized the importance of strengthening China-U.S. relations during meetings with U.S. business leaders in Washington D.C. on Sunday. Han is attending the inauguration ceremony of U.S. President-elect Donald Trump as Chinese President Xi Jinping's special representative.
Han met with representatives from the U.S.-China Business Council and the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, expressing hope that U.S. companies would continue to invest and establish roots in China. \"We hope U.S. businesses will play an active role as a bridge and contribute to the steady, sound, and sustainable development of China-U.S. relations,\" Han stated.
He highlighted the recent phone conversation between President Xi and President-elect Trump, noting that they reached important common understandings on the future development of bilateral ties. Han emphasized that China and the United States share broad common interests and vast potential for cooperation. \"Getting the bilateral relationship off to a good start and keeping it growing steadily serves the common well-being of our peoples and meets the expectations of the international community,\" he said.
Han acknowledged the vital role of the U.S. business community in fostering China-U.S. relations, calling them participants, witnesses, contributors, and beneficiaries of bilateral economic and trade cooperation as well as China's reform and opening-up initiatives. He assured that China will continue to advance its reform and opening-up efforts and improve its business environment.
Representatives from the U.S. business community conveyed optimism about China's economic prospects and development opportunities. They expressed support for strengthening dialogue and communication to further advance bilateral relations and economic and trade cooperation. \"As the world's two most dynamic and technologically advanced economies, the U.S. and China should pursue mutually beneficial cooperation and work towards finding a constructive and stable way to coexist,\" they noted.
Han also held a meeting with Tesla CEO Elon Musk on Sunday. He welcomed U.S. companies like Tesla to seize opportunities in China, sharing in the fruits of its development. \"We welcome U.S. companies, including Tesla, to deepen investment and cooperation with China and make greater contributions to promoting China-U.S. economic and trade relations,\" Han said.
Musk expressed enthusiasm for expanding Tesla's presence in China and playing an active role in enhancing economic and trade exchanges between the two nations.
