Han Zheng Meets U.S. Business Leaders to Strengthen China-U.S. Economic Ties

In a significant move to strengthen China-U.S. relations, Chinese Vice President Han Zheng met with leading U.S. business representatives on Sunday in Washington D.C. Han, serving as President Xi Jinping’s special representative, is attending the inauguration ceremony of U.S. President-elect Donald Trump on Monday at the invitation of the United States.

During the meeting, Han expressed China’s hope that U.S. companies will continue to invest and establish deeper roots in the Chinese mainland. He emphasized the vital role that U.S. businesses play as a bridge between the two nations, encouraging them to contribute to the steady, sound, and sustainable development of bilateral relations.

Han highlighted the recent phone conversation between President Xi and President-elect Trump, noting that they reached important common understandings on advancing China-U.S. relations. “China and the United States share broad common interests and vast potential for cooperation,” Han stated. “Getting the bilateral relationship off to a good start and maintaining its steady growth serves the well-being of our peoples and meets the expectations of the international community.”

The Vice President lauded the U.S. business community as the backbone of China-U.S. relations, recognizing their role as participants, witnesses, contributors, and beneficiaries of bilateral economic and trade cooperation, as well as China’s reform and opening-up initiatives. “China will unswervingly advance its reform and opening-up efforts and continue to improve its business environment,” Han assured.

Representatives from the U.S.-China Business Council and the U.S. Chamber of Commerce expressed optimism about China’s economic prospects and development opportunities. They acknowledged the positive message sent by the recent dialogue between Trump and Xi, emphasizing the importance of mutually beneficial cooperation. “As the world’s two most dynamic and technologically advanced economies, the U.S. and China should work towards a constructive and stable coexistence,” they affirmed.

The U.S. business leaders pledged support for enhancing dialogue and communication to further advance bilateral relations and economic and trade cooperation. Their commitment underscores the critical role of the private sector in fostering strong international ties.

In addition to meeting with business representatives, Han also held talks with Tesla CEO Elon Musk. Han welcomed U.S. companies like Tesla to seize opportunities within China and contribute to the promotion of China-U.S. economic and trade relations. Musk expressed readiness to deepen Tesla’s investment and cooperation with China, aiming to play an active role in promoting economic and trade exchanges between the two nations.

Han Zheng’s engagements in Washington D.C. reflect a concerted effort to reinforce ties between China and the United States at both governmental and business levels. As both countries navigate a complex global landscape, such dialogues are pivotal in shaping a cooperative and prosperous future.
