Han Zheng Meets U.S. Business Leaders to Boost China-U.S. Economic Relations

Chinese Vice President Han Zheng met with U.S. business leaders in Washington D.C. on Sunday, emphasizing the importance of strengthening economic ties between China and the United States.

Han expressed hope that U.S. companies would continue to invest and establish deeper roots in China. He encouraged them to play an active role as a bridge between the two nations, contributing to the steady, sound, and sustainable development of China-U.S. relations.

Attending the inauguration ceremony of U.S. President-elect Donald Trump on Monday as President Xi Jinping's special representative, Han utilized the opportunity to engage with representatives from the U.S.-China Business Council and the U.S. Chamber of Commerce.

During the meeting, Han noted that President Xi and President-elect Trump had recently reached important common understandings regarding the development of China-U.S. relations during a phone conversation. He highlighted the broad common interests and vast potential for cooperation between the two countries.

"Getting the bilateral relationship off to a good start and keeping it growing steadily serves the common well-being of the peoples of our nations and meets the expectations of the international community," Han stated.

He praised the U.S. business community as the backbone of China-U.S. relations, acknowledging their role as participants, witnesses, contributors, and beneficiaries of bilateral economic and trade cooperation as well as China's reform and opening-up efforts.

"China will unswervingly advance its reform and opening-up efforts and continue to improve its business environment," Han assured.

Representatives of the U.S. business community expressed optimism about China's economic prospects and opportunities for development. They voiced support for strengthening dialogue and communication to continue advancing bilateral relations and economic and trade cooperation.

"As the world's two most dynamic and technologically advanced economies, the U.S. and China should pursue mutually beneficial cooperation and work towards finding a constructive and stable way to coexist," they remarked, noting that the recent phone call between Trump and Xi sent a positive and encouraging message.

On the same day, Han also met with Tesla CEO Elon Musk. Han welcomed U.S. companies, including Tesla, to seize the opportunity to share in the fruits of China's development and contribute to promoting China-U.S. economic and trade relations.

Musk expressed Tesla's readiness to deepen its investment and cooperation with China, aiming to play an active role in promoting economic and trade exchanges between the U.S. and China.
