Han Zheng Meets U.S. Business Leaders to Boost China-U.S. Economic Cooperation
Chinese Vice President Han Zheng emphasized the importance of strengthening economic ties between China and the United States during meetings with U.S. business leaders in Washington, D.C., on Sunday. Han is attending the inauguration ceremony of U.S. President-elect Donald Trump as President Xi Jinping's special representative.
In discussions with representatives from the U.S.-China Business Council and the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, Han expressed hope that U.S. companies would continue to invest and establish deeper roots in China. \"It is hoped that U.S. companies will play an active role as a bridge and make greater contributions to the steady, sound, and sustainable development of China-U.S. relations,\" Han stated.
Han highlighted the recent phone conversation between President Xi and President-elect Trump, noting that they reached important common understandings regarding the development of bilateral relations. \"China and the United States share broad common interests and vast potential for cooperation,\" he said. \"Getting the bilateral relationship off to a good start and keeping it growing steadily serves the common well-being of the peoples of the two countries and meets the expectations of the international community.\"
The Vice President acknowledged the pivotal role of the U.S. business community in fostering China-U.S. relations. He described American businesses as participants, witnesses, contributors, and beneficiaries of bilateral economic and trade cooperation, as well as China's reform and opening-up initiatives. \"China will unswervingly advance its reform and opening-up efforts and continue to improve its business environment,\" Han added.
Representatives from the U.S. business community expressed optimism about China's economic prospects and opportunities for development. They viewed the recent phone conversation between Trump and Xi as sending a positive and encouraging message. \"As the world's two most dynamic and technologically advanced economies, the U.S. and China should pursue mutually beneficial cooperation and work towards finding a constructive and stable way to coexist,\" they said.
Han also met with Tesla CEO Elon Musk, welcoming U.S. companies like Tesla to seize opportunities in China. \"China welcomes U.S. companies, including Tesla, to share in the fruits of China's development and make greater contributions to promoting China-U.S. economic and trade relations,\" Han noted. Musk expressed readiness to deepen investment and cooperation with China, aiming to play an active role in promoting economic and trade exchanges between the two nations.
