Han Zheng Engages U.S. Business Leaders to Strengthen China-U.S. Ties
Chinese Vice President Han Zheng, serving as President Xi Jinping’s special representative, met with prominent members of the U.S. business community in Washington, D.C., on Sunday. Attendees included representatives from the U.S.-China Business Council, the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, and other key industry leaders.
Han Zheng is visiting Washington, D.C. to attend the inauguration ceremony of U.S. President-elect Donald Trump on Monday, reflecting the importance China places on its relationship with the new U.S. administration.
During his meetings, Han emphasized the recent phone conversation between President Xi and President-elect Trump, highlighting the important common understandings they reached regarding the development of China-U.S. relations. He noted that China and the United States share broad common interests and vast potential for cooperation.
“Getting the bilateral relationship off to a good start and keeping it growing steadily serves the well-being of the peoples of both countries and meets the expectations of the international community,” Han stated.
He acknowledged the U.S. business community as the backbone of China-U.S. relations, describing it as a participant, witness, contributor, and beneficiary of bilateral economic and trade cooperation, as well as China’s reform and opening-up efforts.
Han reassured that China will continue to advance its reform and opening-up initiatives and enhance its business environment. He expressed hope that U.S. companies will continue to invest in China, take root in the country, and actively play the role of a bridge to promote healthy, stable, and sustainable development of China-U.S. relations.
Representatives of the U.S. business community expressed optimism about China’s economic prospects and development opportunities. They welcomed the positive message sent by the recent phone conversation between Trump and Xi, emphasizing the importance of mutually beneficial cooperation between the world’s two most dynamic and technologically advanced economies.
“The U.S. and China should work towards finding a constructive and stable way to coexist,” they remarked, supporting strengthened dialogue and communication to advance bilateral relations and economic cooperation.
In a separate meeting, Han Zheng met with Tesla CEO Elon Musk. Han welcomed U.S. companies, including Tesla, to seize opportunities arising from China’s development and contribute to promoting economic and trade relations between the two countries.
Musk expressed Tesla’s readiness to deepen its investment and cooperation with China, aiming to play an active role in enhancing economic and trade exchanges between China and the United States.
