Chinese Vice President Han Zheng has called on U.S. businesses to deepen their investment in China, emphasizing the critical role they play in fostering stable and sustainable China-U.S. relations. Han made these remarks on Sunday during a meeting with representatives from the U.S. business community, including members of the U.S.-China Business Council and the U.S. Chamber of Commerce.
Han is visiting Washington D.C. as the special representative of Chinese President Xi Jinping to attend the inauguration ceremony of U.S. President-elect Donald Trump on Monday, at the invitation of the United States.
During the meeting, Han highlighted the recent phone conversation between President Xi and President-elect Trump, noting that they reached important common understandings concerning the development of China-U.S. relations. He emphasized that China and the United States share broad common interests and have vast potential for cooperation.
\"Getting the bilateral relationship off to a good start and keeping it growing steadily serve the common well-being of the peoples of the two countries and meet the expectation of the international community,\" Han stated.
Han praised the U.S. business community as a backbone of China-U.S. relations, describing it as a participant, witness, contributor, and beneficiary of bilateral economic and trade cooperation as well as China's reform and opening-up efforts. He expressed hope that U.S. companies will continue to invest and take root in China, play an active role as a bridge, and contribute to the steady, sound, and sustainable development of China-U.S. relations.
He reiterated China's commitment to advancing reform and opening-up, and to continuing the improvement of its business environment.
Representatives of the U.S. business community expressed optimism about China's economic prospects and opportunities for development. They noted that the recent conversation between Trump and Xi sent a positive and encouraging message.
\"As the world's two most dynamic and technologically advanced economies, the U.S. and China should pursue mutually beneficial cooperation and work towards finding a constructive and stable way to coexist,\" they said.
The business leaders voiced support for strengthening U.S.-China dialogue and communication to continue advancing bilateral relations and economic and trade cooperation.
Han also met with Tesla CEO Elon Musk on Sunday. He welcomed Tesla and other U.S. companies to seize opportunities in China and share in the fruits of its development. Musk expressed readiness to deepen investment and cooperation with China and to play an active role in promoting economic and trade exchanges between the U.S. and China.
