Chinese Vice President Han Zheng met with U.S. business leaders on Sunday, emphasizing the importance of continued investment in the Chinese mainland and strengthening China-U.S. relations. Han is in Washington D.C. to attend the inauguration ceremony of U.S. President-elect Donald Trump on Monday as a special representative of President Xi Jinping.
During the meeting, Han expressed hope that U.S. companies will continue to invest and establish deeper roots in the Chinese mainland. He encouraged them to play an active role in bridging the two economies and contribute to the steady, sound, and sustainable development of China-U.S. relations.
\"China and the United States share broad common interests and vast potential for cooperation,\" Han stated. \"Getting the bilateral relationship off to a good start and keeping it growing steadily serves the common well-being of the peoples of the two countries and meets the expectations of the international community.\"
Han highlighted that the U.S. business community has always been a backbone of China-U.S. relations, describing it as a participant, witness, contributor, and beneficiary of bilateral economic and trade cooperation as well as China's reform and opening-up efforts. He assured that China will continue to advance its reform and opening-up and improve its business environment.
Representatives of the U.S. business community expressed optimism about China's economic prospects and development opportunities. They welcomed the positive message sent by the recent phone conversation between President Xi and President-elect Trump, noting that as the world's two most dynamic and technologically advanced economies, the United States and China should pursue mutually beneficial cooperation and find a constructive and stable way to coexist.
They further expressed support for strengthening dialogue and communication between the two countries to continue advancing bilateral relations and economic and trade cooperation.
Han Zheng also met with Tesla CEO Elon Musk on Sunday. He welcomed Tesla's deepening investment and cooperation in China and encouraged the company to seize opportunities to share in the fruits of China's development. Musk expressed readiness to enhance Tesla's investment in China and play an active role in promoting economic and trade exchanges between the United States and China.
