Chinese Vice President Han Zheng expressed hopes for enhanced China-U.S. relations during meetings with U.S. business leaders on Sunday in Washington D.C. Han encouraged American companies to continue investing and establishing roots in China, highlighting their role as a bridge in bilateral relations.
Han is in Washington D.C. to attend the inauguration ceremony of U.S. President-elect Donald Trump on Monday, representing Chinese President Xi Jinping as his special representative.
During discussions with representatives from the U.S.-China Business Council and the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, Han noted that President Xi and President-elect Donald Trump recently reached important common understandings on the development of China-U.S. relations during a phone call. He emphasized the broad common interests and vast potential for cooperation between the two nations, stating that steady growth in bilateral relations benefits both peoples and meets international expectations.
Han acknowledged the U.S. business community as a backbone of China-U.S. relations, having participated in and benefited from bilateral economic and trade cooperation and China's reform and opening-up efforts. He reaffirmed China's commitment to advancing reform and opening-up and improving its business environment.
Representatives of the U.S. business community expressed optimism about China's economic prospects and development opportunities. They noted that the recent phone conversation between Trump and Xi sent a positive message and called for mutually beneficial cooperation between the world's two most dynamic and technologically advanced economies. They pledged support for strengthening dialogue and communication to advance bilateral relations and economic and trade cooperation.
Han also met with Tesla CEO Elon Musk, welcoming U.S. companies like Tesla to seize opportunities in China. Musk expressed readiness to deepen investment and cooperation with China and to play an active role in promoting economic and trade exchanges between the U.S. and China.
