Chinese Vice President Han Zheng met with representatives of the U.S. business community on Sunday in Washington D.C., aiming to strengthen China-U.S. relations and encourage continued investment from American companies in the Chinese mainland.
During the meeting, Han expressed hope that U.S. companies will continue to invest and establish a strong presence in China, acting as a bridge to promote steady, sound, and sustainable development of China-U.S. relations.
Han is visiting Washington D.C. to attend the inauguration ceremony of U.S. President-elect Donald Trump on Monday, serving as the special representative of Chinese President Xi Jinping at the invitation of the United States.
In his discussions with U.S. business leaders, Han highlighted that President Xi and President-elect Donald Trump recently reached important common understandings regarding the development of China-U.S. relations during a phone call.
\"China and the United States share broad common interests and vast potential for cooperation,\" Han stated. \"Getting the bilateral relationship off to a good start and keeping it growing steadily serve the common well-being of the peoples of the two countries and meet the expectation of the international community.\"
He acknowledged the significant role the U.S. business community has played as a participant, witness, contributor, and beneficiary of bilateral economic and trade cooperation as well as China's reform and opening-up drive.
Han reaffirmed China's commitment to advancing its reform and opening-up efforts and continuing to improve its business environment, welcoming U.S. companies to seize opportunities in China's development.
Representatives of the U.S. business community, including those from the U.S.-China Business Council and the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, expressed optimism about China's economic prospects and opportunities for development. They emphasized support for strengthening U.S.-China dialogue and communication to advance bilateral relations and economic and trade cooperation.
They noted that the recent phone conversation between President-elect Trump and President Xi sent a positive and encouraging message, underscoring the importance of pursuing mutually beneficial cooperation and working towards a constructive and stable coexistence between the two nations.
Han also met with Tesla CEO Elon Musk on Sunday. Han noted that China welcomes U.S. companies, including Tesla, to share in the fruits of China's development and make greater contributions to promoting China-U.S. economic and trade relations.
Musk expressed readiness to deepen Tesla's investment and cooperation with China, aiming to play an active role in promoting economic and trade exchanges between the United States and China.
Han's visit and meetings with U.S. business leaders underscore the mutual interest in strengthening economic ties and fostering a stable and prosperous relationship between China and the United States.
