Chinese Vice President Han Zheng met with representatives of the U.S. business community on Sunday in Washington D.C., emphasizing the importance of strengthening China-U.S. ties and promoting mutually beneficial cooperation.
“We hope that U.S. companies will continue to invest and take root in China, play an active role as a bridge, and contribute more to the steady, sound, and sustainable development of China-U.S. relations,” Han stated during the meeting.
Han Zheng, serving as the special representative of President Xi Jinping, is in Washington D.C. to attend the inauguration ceremony of U.S. President-elect Donald Trump on Monday, at the invitation of the United States.
During discussions with business leaders from the U.S.-China Business Council and the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, Han highlighted the recent phone conversation between President Xi and President-elect Trump, noting that they reached important common understandings on developing China-U.S. relations.
“Getting the bilateral relationship off to a good start and keeping it growing steadily serves the common well-being of the peoples of both countries and meets the expectations of the international community,” Han remarked.
He praised the U.S. business community as the backbone of China-U.S. relations, recognizing their role as participants, witnesses, contributors, and beneficiaries of bilateral economic and trade cooperation, as well as China’s ongoing reform and opening-up endeavors.
Han also reaffirmed China’s commitment to advancing reform and opening-up, and to continually improving the business environment for foreign investors.
Representatives of the U.S. business community expressed optimism about China’s economic prospects and opportunities for development. They conveyed that the recent conversation between Trump and Xi sent a positive and encouraging message.
“As the world’s two most dynamic and technologically advanced economies, the U.S. and China should pursue mutually beneficial cooperation and work towards finding a constructive and stable way to coexist,” they stated.
The business leaders voiced support for strengthening dialogue and communication to advance bilateral relations and economic and trade cooperation.
In addition, Han met with Tesla CEO Elon Musk. Han welcomed U.S. companies, including Tesla, to seize the opportunity to share in China’s development and contribute to promoting economic and trade exchanges between the two nations.
Musk expressed Tesla’s readiness to deepen investment and cooperation with China, and to play an active role in fostering economic and trade ties between the United States and China.
