Chinese Vice President Han Zheng met with U.S. business leaders on Sunday in Washington D.C., emphasizing the importance of strengthening China-U.S. relations through continued investment and cooperation.
Han expressed hope that U.S. companies would continue to invest and establish a deeper presence in the Chinese mainland, acting as a bridge to contribute to the steady, sound, and sustainable development of bilateral relations.
He met with representatives from the U.S.-China Business Council and the U.S. Chamber of Commerce during his visit to attend the inauguration ceremony of U.S. President-elect Donald Trump as the special representative of Chinese President Xi Jinping.
During the meeting, Han noted that President Xi and President-elect Trump recently reached important common understandings regarding the development of China-U.S. relations during a phone call. He emphasized that both countries share broad common interests and vast potential for cooperation.
Han stated that getting the bilateral relationship off to a good start and maintaining its steady growth serves the well-being of the peoples of both nations and meets the expectations of the international community.
He highlighted the vital role of the U.S. business community as the backbone of China-U.S. relations, acknowledging their participation, witness, contribution, and benefits derived from bilateral economic and trade cooperation as well as China’s reform and opening-up efforts.
Han reassured that China will unswervingly continue its reform and opening-up journey and will strive to improve its business environment.
Representatives of the U.S. business community expressed optimism about China’s economic prospects and development opportunities. They welcomed the positive messages from the recent phone conversation between President Xi and President-elect Trump, viewing it as encouraging.
As the world’s two most dynamic and technologically advanced economies, they emphasized that the United States and China should pursue mutually beneficial cooperation and strive to find a constructive and stable path for coexistence.
Han also met with Tesla CEO Elon Musk on Sunday. He welcomed U.S. companies, including Tesla, to seize opportunities in China and share in the fruits of its development. He encouraged greater contributions to promoting China-U.S. economic and trade relations.
Musk expressed readiness to deepen investment and cooperation with China and affirmed Tesla’s commitment to playing an active role in fostering economic and trade exchanges between the two countries.
