Chinese Vice President Han Zheng met with representatives of the U.S. business community on Sunday, emphasizing the importance of strengthening China-U.S. relations through economic cooperation. The meeting included members from the U.S.-China Business Council and the U.S. Chamber of Commerce.
Han Zheng is in Washington D.C. to attend the inauguration ceremony of U.S. President-elect Donald Trump on Monday as Chinese President Xi Jinping's special representative.
During the meeting, Han expressed hope that U.S. companies will continue to invest and establish deeper roots in the Chinese mainland. He encouraged them to play an active role as a bridge between the two nations and contribute to the steady, sound, and sustainable development of China-U.S. relations.
Han highlighted that President Xi and President-elect Trump had recently reached important common understandings regarding the development of China-U.S. relations during a phone call. He noted that both countries share broad common interests and vast potential for cooperation, asserting that a good start and steady growth in bilateral relations serve the well-being of both peoples and meet international expectations.
\"The U.S. business community has always been the backbone of China-U.S. relations,\" Han said, acknowledging their role as participants, witnesses, contributors, and beneficiaries of bilateral economic and trade cooperation as well as China's reform and opening-up initiatives.
He reaffirmed China's commitment to advancing reform and opening-up efforts, promising to continue improving the business environment.
Representatives of the U.S. business community expressed optimism about China's economic prospects and development opportunities. They noted that the recent phone conversation between Trump and Xi sent a positive, encouraging message. As the world's two most dynamic and technologically advanced economies, they emphasized that the United States and China should pursue mutually beneficial cooperation and work towards a constructive and stable coexistence.
Han Zheng also met with Tesla CEO Elon Musk on Sunday. He welcomed U.S. companies, including Tesla, to seize opportunities to share in the fruits of China's development and make greater contributions to promoting China-U.S. economic and trade relations. Musk expressed Tesla's readiness to deepen investment and cooperation in China and play an active role in promoting economic and trade exchanges between the two nations.
