Chinese Vice President Han Zheng Meets U.S. Business Leaders to Strengthen Ties

Chinese Vice President Han Zheng met with representatives of the U.S. business community on Sunday in Washington D.C., aiming to strengthen China-U.S. relations and enhance economic cooperation between the two nations. Han is attending the inauguration ceremony of U.S. President-elect Donald Trump on Monday as Chinese President Xi Jinping's special representative.

During the meeting, Han expressed hope that U.S. companies would continue to invest and establish deeper roots in the Chinese mainland. He encouraged them to play an active role as a bridge between the two countries and contribute to the steady, sound, and sustainable development of China-U.S. relations.

Han highlighted that President Xi and President-elect Trump had recently reached important common understandings regarding the development of bilateral relations during a phone call. He emphasized that China and the United States share broad common interests and vast potential for cooperation.

\"Getting the bilateral relationship off to a good start and keeping it growing steadily serves the common well-being of the peoples of the two countries and meets the expectations of the international community,\" Han said.

He acknowledged the U.S. business community as the backbone of China-U.S. relations, noting their role as participants, witnesses, contributors, and beneficiaries of bilateral economic and trade cooperation as well as China's reform and opening-up efforts. Han assured that China would unswervingly advance its reform and opening-up initiatives and continue to improve its business environment.

Representatives from the U.S.-China Business Council and the U.S. Chamber of Commerce welcomed Han's remarks. They noted that the recent phone conversation between Trump and Xi sent a positive, encouraging message. They expressed optimism about China's economic prospects and development opportunities, supporting strengthened dialogue and communication between the two countries to advance bilateral relations and economic and trade cooperation.

As the world's two most dynamic and technologically advanced economies, the representatives stated that the United States and China should pursue mutually beneficial cooperation and work towards finding a constructive and stable way to coexist.

Additionally, Han met with Tesla CEO Elon Musk on Sunday. He welcomed U.S. companies, including Tesla, to seize opportunities to share in the fruits of China's development and make greater contributions to promoting China-U.S. economic and trade relations. Musk expressed readiness for Tesla to deepen its investment and cooperation with China and to play an active role in promoting economic and trade exchanges between the two nations.
