Chinese Vice President Han Zheng met with representatives of the U.S. business community on Sunday, expressing hope that American companies will continue to invest and establish a strong presence in China. Han emphasized the importance of U.S. businesses playing an active role as a bridge between the two nations, contributing to the steady, sound, and sustainable development of China-U.S. relations.
Han is in Washington D.C. to attend the inauguration ceremony of U.S. President-elect Donald Trump on Monday as a special representative of Chinese President Xi Jinping, at the invitation of the United States. During his meeting with U.S. business leaders, Han highlighted the recent phone call between President Xi and President-elect Trump, during which they reached important common understandings regarding the development of China-U.S. relations.
Noting that China and the United States share broad common interests and have vast potential for cooperation, Han stated that getting the bilateral relationship off to a good start and maintaining its steady growth serves the common well-being of the peoples of both countries and meets the expectations of the international community.
Han acknowledged the U.S. business community as a backbone of China-U.S. relations, recognizing it as a participant, witness, contributor, and beneficiary of bilateral economic and trade cooperation, as well as China's reform and opening-up efforts. He assured that China will continue to advance its reform and opening-up initiatives and will strive to improve its business environment.
Representatives of the U.S. business community expressed optimism about China's economic prospects and development opportunities. They noted that the recent phone conversation between President-elect Trump and President Xi sent a positive and encouraging message. As the world's two most dynamic and technologically advanced economies, the United States and China should pursue mutually beneficial cooperation and work towards a constructive and stable coexistence, they said.
The U.S. business leaders voiced support for strengthening dialogue and communication between the two countries to continue advancing bilateral relations and economic and trade cooperation.
On the same day, Han also met with Tesla CEO Elon Musk. Han noted that China welcomes U.S. companies, including Tesla, to seize opportunities to share in the fruits of China's development and contribute to promoting China-U.S. economic and trade relations. Musk expressed readiness to deepen Tesla's investment and cooperation with China, aiming to play an active role in fostering economic and trade exchanges between the United States and China.
