Chinese Vice President Han Zheng Meets U.S. Business Leaders to Strengthen China-U.S. Ties

Chinese Vice President Han Zheng met with representatives of the U.S. business community in Washington, D.C., on Sunday, emphasizing the importance of strengthening economic ties between China and the United States. Han is visiting the U.S. capital to attend the inauguration ceremony of U.S. President-elect Donald Trump on Monday as the special representative of Chinese President Xi Jinping.

During the meeting, which included members from the U.S.-China Business Council and the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, Han expressed hope that U.S. companies would continue to invest and establish a strong presence in China. He highlighted the vital role that the U.S. business community plays as a bridge in promoting steady, sound, and sustainable development of China-U.S. relations.

Han noted that President Xi and President-elect Trump had recently reached important common understandings regarding the development of bilateral relations during a phone conversation. He underscored the broad common interests and vast potential for cooperation between the two nations, stating that a positive start and steady growth of the relationship serve the well-being of both peoples and meet international expectations.

“The U.S. business community has always been the backbone of China-U.S. relations,” Han said. “You are participants, witnesses, contributors, and beneficiaries of our economic and trade cooperation, as well as China’s reform and opening-up efforts.”

He assured the business leaders that China remains committed to advancing reform and opening-up and will continue to improve its business environment.

Representatives of the U.S. business community welcomed the positive message from the recent phone conversation between Trump and Xi. They expressed optimism about China’s economic prospects and the opportunities for development there. Emphasizing the importance of mutually beneficial cooperation, the business leaders voiced support for strengthening dialogue and communication to advance bilateral relations and economic and trade cooperation.

During his visit, Han also met with Tesla CEO Elon Musk. Han welcomed U.S. companies like Tesla to seize opportunities in China and contribute to promoting economic and trade relations between the two countries.

Musk expressed Tesla’s readiness to deepen investment and cooperation with China, aiming to play an active role in fostering economic exchanges between the U.S. and China.
