Chinese Vice President Han Zheng Meets U.S. Business Leaders to Strengthen China-U.S. Ties

Chinese Vice President Han Zheng met with U.S. business leaders in Washington D.C. on Sunday, emphasizing the importance of continued investment and cooperation to enhance China-U.S. relations.

Han, serving as President Xi Jinping’s special representative, is in the U.S. capital to attend the inauguration ceremony of U.S. President-elect Donald Trump on Monday.

During his meeting with representatives from the U.S.-China Business Council and the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, Han expressed hope that U.S. companies would “continue to invest and take root in China, play an active role as a bridge, and make a greater contribution to the steady, sound, and sustainable development of China-U.S. relations.”

He highlighted the recent phone conversation between President Xi and President-elect Trump, noting that they reached important common understandings regarding the development of China-U.S. relations.

“China and the United States share broad common interests and vast potential for cooperation,” Han stated. “Getting the bilateral relationship off to a good start and keeping it growing steadily serve the common well-being of the peoples of the two countries and meet the expectation of the international community.”

Han acknowledged the significant role the U.S. business community has played in fostering ties between the two nations. He described them as participants, witnesses, contributors, and beneficiaries of bilateral economic and trade cooperation, as well as China’s reform and opening-up efforts.

He assured that China will unswervingly advance its reform and opening-up, and continue to improve its business environment.

Representatives from the U.S. business community expressed optimism about China’s economic prospects and opportunities for development. They welcomed the positive message from the recent Xi-Trump phone conversation and supported strengthening dialogue and communication to advance bilateral relations and economic and trade cooperation.

As part of his visit, Han also met with Tesla CEO Elon Musk. Han noted that China welcomes U.S. companies, including Tesla, to seize opportunities and share in the fruits of China’s development.

Musk expressed Tesla’s readiness to deepen investment and cooperation with China, and to play an active role in promoting economic and trade exchanges between the U.S. and China.

Han’s visit and meetings with U.S. business leaders underscore the commitment of both nations to foster a constructive and stable relationship, emphasizing mutual benefits and cooperation in the years ahead.
