Chinese Vice President Han Zheng Meets U.S. Business Leaders to Strengthen China-U.S. Ties

Chinese Vice President Han Zheng, special representative of President Xi Jinping, met with U.S. business leaders in Washington, D.C. on Sunday, aiming to strengthen China-U.S. ties and promote economic cooperation.

Han is in Washington to attend the inauguration ceremony of U.S. President-elect Donald Trump on Monday, at the invitation of the U.S. side.

During his meeting with representatives from the U.S.-China Business Council, the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, and other members of the U.S. business community, Han emphasized the importance of the recent phone call between President Xi and President-elect Trump, noting that they reached important common understandings regarding the development of China-U.S. relations.

“China and the United States share broad common interests and vast potential for cooperation,” Han said. “Getting the bilateral relationship off to a good start and keeping it growing steadily serves the common well-being of the peoples of the two countries and meets the expectation of the international community.”

He praised the U.S. business community as the backbone of China-U.S. relations, acknowledging their role as participants, witnesses, contributors, and beneficiaries of bilateral economic and trade cooperation, as well as China’s reform and opening-up efforts.

Han assured that China will unswervingly advance its reform and opening-up efforts and continue to improve its business environment. He expressed hope that U.S. companies will continue to invest in China, take root, and actively play the role of a bridge, contributing to the healthy, stable, and sustainable development of China-U.S. relations.

Representatives of the U.S. business community welcomed the positive message sent by the recent phone conversation between President-elect Trump and President Xi. They expressed optimism about China’s economic prospects and opportunities for development, supporting the strengthening of U.S.-China dialogue and communication to continue advancing bilateral relations and economic and trade cooperation.

“As the world’s two most dynamic and technologically advanced economies, the United States and China should pursue mutually beneficial cooperation and work towards finding a constructive and stable way to coexist,” they stated.

On the same day, Han met with Tesla CEO Elon Musk. Han noted that China welcomes U.S. companies, including Tesla, to seize the opportunity to share in the fruits of China’s development and make greater contributions to promoting China-U.S. economic and trade relations.

Musk expressed Tesla’s readiness to deepen its investment and cooperation with China and play an active role in promoting economic and trade exchanges between the United States and China.
