Chinese Vice President Han Zheng Meets U.S. Business Leaders to Strengthen Bilateral Ties
Chinese Vice President Han Zheng expressed hope on Sunday that U.S. companies will continue to invest and establish a strong presence in the Chinese mainland. He encouraged them to play an active role in fostering cooperation and contributing to the stable, healthy, and sustainable development of China-U.S. relations.
Han made these remarks during a meeting with representatives of the U.S. business community, including members from the U.S.-China Business Council and the U.S. Chamber of Commerce. Han is visiting Washington D.C. to attend the inauguration ceremony of U.S. President-elect Donald Trump on Monday as the special representative of Chinese President Xi Jinping, at the invitation of the United States.
During the meeting, Han highlighted that President Xi and President-elect Trump recently reached important common understandings regarding the future development of China-U.S. relations during a phone call. He noted that China and the United States share broad common interests and have vast potential for cooperation. Han emphasized that getting the bilateral relationship off to a good start and maintaining steady growth serves the common well-being of the peoples of both countries and meets the expectations of the international community.
Han acknowledged the significant role of the U.S. business community as a backbone of China-U.S. relations, describing them as participants, witnesses, contributors, and beneficiaries of bilateral economic and trade cooperation as well as China's reform and opening-up initiatives. He reiterated China's commitment to advancing reform and opening-up efforts and to continuously improving its business environment.
The representatives of the U.S. business community expressed optimism about China's economic prospects and development opportunities. They welcomed the positive message sent by the recent phone conversation between President-elect Trump and President Xi. They agreed that as the world's two most dynamic and technologically advanced economies, the United States and China should pursue mutually beneficial cooperation and work towards finding a constructive and stable way to coexist. They voiced support for strengthening U.S.-China dialogue and communication to continue advancing bilateral relations and economic and trade cooperation.
In addition, Han met with Tesla CEO Elon Musk on Sunday. Han welcomed U.S. companies, including Tesla, to seize opportunities to share in the fruits of China's development and to contribute to promoting China-U.S. economic and trade relations. Musk expressed readiness to deepen Tesla's investment and cooperation with China and to play an active role in promoting economic and trade exchanges between the United States and China.
