Chinese Vice President Han Zheng Meets U.S. Business Leaders to Strengthen Bilateral Ties

Chinese Vice President Han Zheng met with representatives of the U.S. business community on Sunday, emphasizing the importance of continued investment and collaboration between China and the United States. Han expressed hope that U.S. companies would continue to invest and establish deeper roots in China, playing an active role in bridging the two nations and contributing to the steady, sound, and sustainable development of China-U.S. relations.

Han Zheng, who is in Washington D.C. to attend the inauguration ceremony of U.S. President-elect Donald Trump as Chinese President Xi Jinping's special representative, held discussions with representatives from the U.S.-China Business Council and the U.S. Chamber of Commerce.

During the meeting, Han stated that President Xi Jinping and U.S. President-elect Donald Trump recently reached important common understandings regarding the development of China-U.S. relations during a phone call. Noting the broad common interests and vast potential for cooperation between the two countries, Han emphasized that initiating a positive start and maintaining steady growth in bilateral relations serve the common well-being of both peoples and meet international expectations.

Han highlighted the U.S. business community as a backbone of China-U.S. relations, acknowledging its role as a participant, witness, contributor, and beneficiary of bilateral economic and trade cooperation, as well as China's reform and opening-up efforts. He assured that China will continue to advance its reform and opening-up initiatives and improve its business environment.

Representatives of the U.S. business community expressed optimism about China's economic prospects and development opportunities. They welcomed the positive and encouraging message from the recent phone conversation between Trump and Xi, stating that as the world's two most dynamic and technologically advanced economies, the U.S. and China should pursue mutually beneficial cooperation and work towards a constructive and stable coexistence.

The U.S. business leaders reaffirmed their support for strengthening dialogue and communication between the two nations to continue advancing bilateral relations and economic and trade cooperation.

On the same day, Han Zheng also met with Tesla CEO Elon Musk. Han noted that China welcomes U.S. companies, including Tesla, to seize opportunities and share in the fruits of China's development, and encouraged them to contribute to promoting China-U.S. economic and trade relations.

Elon Musk expressed Tesla's readiness to deepen its investment and cooperation with China and its commitment to playing an active role in promoting economic and trade exchanges between the U.S. and China.
