Chinese Vice President Han Zheng Meets U.S. Business Leaders to Enhance China-U.S. Relations

Chinese Vice President Han Zheng met with U.S. business leaders on Sunday in Washington D.C., aiming to strengthen economic ties between the two nations. The discussions focused on enhancing cooperation and promoting the steady, sound, and sustainable development of China-U.S. relations.

Han is visiting Washington D.C. to attend the inauguration ceremony of U.S. President-elect Donald Trump on Monday as a special representative of Chinese President Xi Jinping.

Emphasizing Mutual Interests

During the meeting, Han highlighted the importance of the recent phone call between President Xi and President-elect Trump, noting that the two leaders reached significant common understandings on the future development of China-U.S. relations. He stated that the two countries share extensive common interests and vast potential for cooperation.

“Getting the bilateral relationship off to a good start and keeping it growing steadily serves the common well-being of the peoples of our two countries and meets the expectations of the international community,” Han said.

Role of U.S. Business Community

Han praised the U.S. business community as the backbone of China-U.S. relations, describing it as a participant, witness, contributor, and beneficiary of bilateral economic and trade cooperation as well as China’s reform and opening-up drive. He expressed hope that U.S. companies will continue to invest and take root in the Chinese mainland, playing an active role as a bridge between the two nations.

“China will unswervingly advance its reform and opening-up efforts and continue to improve its business environment,” Han added.

Positive Outlook from U.S. Business Leaders

Representatives from the U.S.-China Business Council and the U.S. Chamber of Commerce expressed optimism about China’s economic prospects and the opportunities for development. They welcomed the positive message from the recent phone conversation between Trump and Xi, stating that as the world’s two most dynamic and technologically advanced economies, the U.S. and China should pursue mutually beneficial cooperation.

The business leaders supported strengthening dialogue and communication to continue advancing bilateral relations and economic and trade cooperation.

Meeting with Elon Musk

Han also met with Tesla CEO Elon Musk on Sunday. He welcomed U.S. companies, including Tesla, to seize opportunities in China’s development and contribute to promoting China-U.S. economic and trade relations.

Musk expressed Tesla’s readiness to deepen investment and cooperation in China, aiming to play an active role in promoting economic and trade exchanges between the U.S. and China.
