Chinese Vice President Han Zheng met with representatives of the U.S. business community in Washington D.C. on Sunday, aiming to strengthen economic ties and foster greater cooperation between the two nations. Han, attending the inauguration ceremony of U.S. President-elect Donald Trump as President Xi Jinping’s special representative, expressed hope that American companies would continue to invest and establish deeper roots in China.

During the meeting, Han highlighted the recent phone conversation between President Xi and President-elect Trump, noting that they reached important common understandings on the development of China-U.S. relations. “China and the United States share broad common interests and vast potential for cooperation,” Han stated. “Getting the bilateral relationship off to a good start and keeping it growing steadily serves the common well-being of the peoples of the two countries and meets the expectation of the international community.”

Han emphasized the crucial role of the U.S. business community in the bilateral relationship, calling them participants, witnesses, contributors, and beneficiaries of economic and trade cooperation as well as China’s reform and opening-up drive. He assured the delegates that China will unswervingly advance its reform and opening-up efforts and continue to improve its business environment.

Representatives from the U.S. business community, including members of the U.S.-China Business Council and the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, praised the positive signals from the recent communication between the two presidents. They expressed optimism about China’s economic prospects and the opportunities available for development. “As the world’s two most dynamic and technologically advanced economies, the U.S. and China should pursue mutually beneficial cooperation and work towards finding a constructive and stable way to coexist,” they said.

The business leaders voiced their support for strengthening dialogue and communication to continue advancing bilateral relations and economic and trade cooperation.

On the same day, Han also met with Tesla CEO Elon Musk. Han welcomed Tesla’s increasing investment in China, inviting U.S. companies to seize opportunities to share in the fruits of China’s development. “China welcomes U.S. companies, including Tesla, to make greater contributions to promoting China-U.S. economic and trade relations,” he remarked.

Musk expressed enthusiasm for deepening Tesla’s investment and cooperation with China. “Tesla is ready to play an active role in promoting economic and trade exchanges between the U.S. and China,” he said.

Han’s meetings underscore a mutual desire to enhance economic ties and set a positive tone for future cooperation between the Chinese mainland and the United States as the new U.S. administration prepares to take office.
